The Immaculate Heart of Mary

The Blessed Virgin Mary’s pure and immaculate heart is the source of her burning love for God and her desire to bring people to her Son Jesus.

Jesus’ sacred humanity comes from the flesh and blood of Mary, his heart from hers. To prepare for the Incarnation of the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, Mary was conceived without the stain of Original Sin and did not commit any personal sins during her life.

At the Annunciation, the Archangel Gabriel declared to Mary that she was favored by God and full of grace. She responded, showing that she was open to the will of God.

The Blessed Mother accompanied Jesus on his mission and pondered the events of Jesus’ life in her heart.

Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is supported by Sacred Scripture, promoted by several saints, and revealed in various private revelations.

The Church celebrates the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary on a Saturday, the day after the Solemnity of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Called to listen and meditate like Mary:

Praying to have a heart like hers:

Finally, since the Church and the whole human race were consecrated to the Heart of your Jesus, so that, placing all hope in Him, He would be for them a sign and pledge of victory and salvation; likewise we in perpetuity also consecrate ourselves to you, to your Immaculate Heart, O our Mother and Queen of the world: so that your love and patronage may hasten the triumph of the Kingdom of God, and all peoples, pacified among themselves and with God, May they proclaim you blessed, and sing with you, from one end of the earth to the other, the eternal Magnificat of glory, love, gratitude to the Heart of Jesus, in which alone can they find the Truth, Life and Peace.

Pope Pius XII, Prayer for the Consecration of the Church and the Human Kind to the Immaculate Mary, October 31, 1942

Her heart never said “No” to God:

A heart free from the stain of original sin:

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.”

Luke 1: 26-30

The model of the redeemed:

The throne of all virtue:

The “splendour of an entirely unique holiness” by which Mary is “enriched from the first instant of her conception” comes wholly from Christ: she is “redeemed, in a more exalted fashion, by reason of the merits of her Son”. The Father blessed Mary more than any other created person “in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” and chose her “in Christ before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before him in love”.
